The founders were:

• Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (pr. Lavrentieva 10, Novosibirsk, 630090 Russia).
• Vavilov Society of Geneticists and Breeders (Universitetskaya Naberezhnaya 7/9, St.-Petersburg, 199034 Russia).

Current title since 2010:

Vavilovskii zhurnal genetiki i selektsii (Vavilov Journal of Genetics and Breeding) (Certificate of mass media registration PI No. FS77-42741 of November 25, 2010.)

One more organization joined the founders in 2011:

• Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS)

The effective certificate of mass media registration PI No. FS77-45870 was issued.

Since 2011, English translations of articles published in the Vavilov Journal of Genetics and Breeding have been published in the bimonthly Russian journal of genetics: applied research (ISSN: 2079-0597), which comes out eight times a year and contains translated versions of Vavilovskii zhurnal genetiki i selektsii and Ekologicheskaya genetika (Ecological Genetics).
